Distributed generation (DG) is emerging as a new paradigm to produce onsite highly reliable and good quality electrical power. DG becomes a viable alternative when renewable or non-conventional energy resources are available. These resources can be connected to local low-voltage electric power networks, also called mini- or micro-grids, through power conditioning ac units, i.e. inverters or ac-ac converters, which can operate either in grid-connected mode or in island mode. The research interest lays in the control and management of such grids.
